Teens

You’ll have the opportunity to have fun cooking with other teens while helping people fighting severe illness. With the guidance of adult mentor chefs you’ll learn to prepare, cook, and package meals.

We ask that our teens are at least in 8th grade and above, and between the ages of 13 and 19. We ask for a three-month commitment from all teen volunteers, and we ask that you work at least a 2.5 to 3 hour shift each week.

Teen Volunteering takes places each Wednesday from 3:30 to 6:30pm at Park Congregational Church (10 East Park Place NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49503).

Adult Volunteer Opportunities

Adult Mentor Chef: If you have whole food cooking experience, we’d love to have you join us as an adult mentor chef! You must love working with young people and have a sense of humor. Weekly: Wednesdays from 3:00 – 6:30pm. (FULL)

Food Prep: Join adult volunteers in the kitchen to help wash, prepare whole foods for cooking and make broths so the teens can start cooking meals when they arrive. Weekly: Wednesdays from 12:30 – 3:30pm.

Packaging Supervisor: Help us package our beautiful delicious meals and prepare them for the delivery angels. Weekly: Wednesdays from 3:30 - 6:15pm.

Delivery Angel: Deliver the healing meals to our clients every week is a special job. Delivery Angels pick up the meal bags at Park Church each Wednesday at 6:00pm and deliver them to 1-3 homes. We especially need delivery angels for NW & SE areas of Grand Rapids.

Administrative Assistant: Assist us with the behind the scenes work that allows us to operate this wonderful program. Data entry, creating forms, filing, phone calls and errands are some of the duties.

Volunteer Coordinator: Assist with volunteer outreach, organize, oversee and support our volunteers. Help schedule and track volunteer hours, processes applications and assist with volunteer orientation.

Client Coordinator: If you have counseling, social work or nursing experience, consider this special position. Hold intake conversations with potential clients who have been recently diagnosed, determine what clients qualify and when meals can begin. Enters client information into the database; oversees Client Liaison’s, communicates information from Client Liaison and kitchen staff.

Client Liaison: If you have counseling, hospice training, or personal experience with life-threatening illness, being a Client Liaison is a wonderful way to contribute. The Client Liaison volunteer maintains regular weekly contact with 2-3 clients to offer support and communicate any changes in the food program to the Client Coordinator. Approximately 2-3 hours per week.

Board of Directors: Our organization is growing and so is our board of directors. We are currently accepting applications to serve on our board. Please email your resume to wendy@reviveandthriveproject.org.

Let us know if you have an area of expertise or skill. From marketing to maintenance, we can use your talent!

Questions and Answers

Where do I work? We are currently looking at options for office space. We use the kitchen at Park Congregational Church located at 10 East Park Place, Grand Rapids (next to the library downtown).  Many positions have the option to work from home. We have maintained an urban garden in the past--unfortunately, it was moved and we are currently looking for a new space. If you have any suggestions, please contact us!

How long do I have to commit? Families receive meals to support the healing and recovery processes. We provide meals for 12 weeks and may extend meal service for up to 24 weeks. Therefore, we ask for a minimum of a 12 week commitment which helps tremendously with the planning. Yes, you may miss a time or two during this period.

How do I apply? Click on one of the links below to email us and request a volunteer application. Please let us know in your email which volunteer position you are interested in doing. All volunteers attend a volunteer orientation/open house, contact us to find out when our next one will be held.
